EU Directive 2023/1791: Are you ready for ISO 50001 certification?
Learn how to meet the energy efficiency requirements set for 2025 and 2027 by adopting a digital and centralized Energy Management System compliant with the ISO 50001 standard.

New obligations for companies: what does EU Directive 2023/1791 require?
Starting in October 2025, large companies in the EU will be required to implement an Energy Management System (EnMS). By 2027, this system must be certified according to ISO 50001.
The goal is to strengthen energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and promote the ecological transition. Non-compliance carries the risk of sanctions and loss of competitiveness.
Obligations for companies

ISO 50001 Certification
Companies that, in the previous three years, have recorded an average annual energy consumption of more than 85 terajoules (TJ), considering all energy carriers, must implement an Energy Management System compliant with ISO 50001 by October 11, 2027.

Energy Audits
Companies with an average annual energy consumption above 10 TJ but below 85 TJ are required to carry out an energy audit by October 11, 2026, and to prepare a concrete and feasible action plan to implement the identified recommendations.
