Specifically, Article 11 of the directive introduces the following requirements:

ISO 50001 Certification

Companies that, over the previous three years, recorded an average annual energy consumption above 85 terajoules (TJ) across all energy vectors must implement an Energy Management System compliant with ISO 50001 by October 11, 2027.

Energy Audits

Companies with an average annual energy consumption above 10 TJ but below 85 TJ are required to conduct an energy audit by October 11, 2026 and develop a concrete, actionable plan to implement the identified recommendations.
